Who do you cheer for in this year’s NCAA Men’s division 1 basketball tournament with only 1 team from Florida playing and they are in a play in game, which if they win earns them a date with Number One seed Duke.
University of North Florida men’s basketball team qualified for the tournament by winning their leagues tournament. The Osprey’s are the 2015 Atlantic Sun Champions. The campus of University North Florida is located in Jacksonville, Florida. The Osprey’s are 23-11 and they (played) will play Robert Morris on Wednesday March 18.
Once UNF is knocked out who should a basketball fan from Florida cheer for during the tournament. The odds on favorite is Kentucky, they haven’t lost a game yet this year and don’t look very beatable. The University of Florida finished with a losing season and didn’t make the big dance, nor the NIT tournament. They lost to Kentucky 3 times. They also lost 7 games by three points or less. So one eliminating playing the number one team three times and making one more shot in 7 different games, the Gators could have finished 26-7 instead of 16-17, but that is not reality.
So here I am not wanting to cheer for Kentucky and not really having a team that really excites me to cheer for in the state of Florida. Who are you cheering for this year? Well, I guess I’m going to cheer for Wisconsin because they seem like the only team that could give Kentucky a run for their money. Another team that intrigues me, but I surely won’t cheer for is Notre Dame.
Notre Dame won the ACC basketball tournament. Notre Dame, not Duke, not North Carolina, not Maryland, not Virginia, not any of those teams but Notre Dame. Okay as you can tell that was a shocker. So I’m intrigued and take note anytime a team beats Duke twice in a season. I’ll watch Notre Dame but probably not cheer for them.
The NCAA tournament or March Madness as it is called is fun to watch. Cinderella teams win. Teams that are huge underdogs actually have a chance to win a game or two. Actually it has been 7 years or so since more than one #1 seed has made a final four.
However I’m pretty confident in saying you should have Kentucky filled in all the way to the championship game, and maybe even winning it. A perfect season is rare in men’s basketball. Indiana did it once in 1975-76 with a 32-0 season.
I think that will make this year’s tournament fun to watch even if you don’t have a team to cheer for, you can watch to see if Kentucky will make history or you can root against them and pull for the Cinderella team to knock them off and ruin the perfect season.
For those wanting to watch some live basketball games there are some in the state of Florida this year in Jacksonville. The game I would like to go see is Harvard vs. University of North Carolina. That seems like an intriguing matchup and a game of different styles and abilities that would be fun to watch.
BYU/Ole Miss play in a play in game, the winner takes on Xavier. There is also a game between Wofford an Arkansas, and a game between Baylor and Georgia State. Georgia State won their conference championship 38-36 and their coach tore his Achilles tendon when he landed wrong from jumping up in celebration.
So there ya go, the NCAA tourney is here, lots of bosses will have unproductive workers, taking a little longer lunch breaks, maybe sneaking a peak on the computer or on their smart phones. But hey it’s only a few days and maybe the state of Florida won’t be hurt too much since we really don’t have a dog in the fight.
Here’s to all those filling out a bracket, hope you win your bracket war with all of your friends. Have fun and enjoy your madness.
